Why we ask you to wash the clothes prior to donation

It is vital we receive all clothing and linen donations freshly laundered. We have no time to wash and dry clothing when we aim to provide critical crisis assistance. When you pass on your donations of clothing and linen freshly laundered, we can get them to an individual or family in need much faster – timing is everything.

Clothing stored safely in tubs, attics or drawers for short periods can attract dust and a musty smell. When those most vulnerable are receiving these items, we must ensure they are clean.

By thoughtfully putting them through a quick wash cycle, drying and checking their quality means the family receiving your donation can use it immediately. They may be in a refuge, short-term accommodation or hospital setting and unable to access washing facilities. The recipients will feel immediately comforted knowing what they received was prepared with love and thought.
